Blondie’s NYC
New York is one of those cities that always lives up to the hype. It’s one of the world’s great cities, and maybe the new Rome. John Lennon certainly thought so. It has a magnetic power of attraction that brings in some of the best minds and most talented people in the world, looking for a bite of the apple, or wanting to contribute to the cultural fabric of the world. For art and commerce, it’s difficult to find a city that even comes close, and it’s been taking care of travelers for more than a century. Hospitality is an art form here, and for luxury hotels, New York City has magnificent offerings. Our hotels are selected for their ability to offer fantastic hospitality with a difference.
They are truly exquisite and unique, offering a luxury experience that is unlike any other in New York. You’ll love the comfortable rooms that invite long naps and deep sleeping, and waking up in splendid decor. After a sumptuous meal, you’ll be ready to start enjoying what the city has to offer you today. Musically, the history of NYC in music is a reflection of world music, because every movement came here or originated here. Today’s rage for retro has some of its roots in the musical aesthetic of one of the original punk bands, Blondie. However, it’s probably a misnomer to call them punk, because they really weren’t that, they were just there in the mix with the Ramones, Television, and the Talking Heads, when it all started.
Blondie’s beginnings were rather typical, and still very much in line with myths of beginnings. In 1974, an art student named Chris Stein met a waitress from Max’s Kansas City, Debbie Harry. They found they had a shared love for the pop radio hits of the previous decade, and felt they could continue this tradition with difference. Blondie was born in punk, and their hyper-ironic pop performances fit in well with the whole scene. And there was something unusual about their lead singer, who performed with a self-referential attitude that was simultaneously antagonistic and seductive. This combination made for a knockout group, who were performing a kind of retro long before retro was cool. They were inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
