Many Theme Park Accidents Go Unreported
It’s a sad fact that many states do not require amusement parks to report accidents. Since there are a number of different national consumer protection agencies and industry groups that track theme park accidents it is impossible to know exactly how many accident occur in a given year. While Florida, which many consider the theme park capital because of all the Orlando area resort parks, does not require parks to report accidents, the major parks voluntarily release data each quarter.
Major injuries, such as broken bones, head trauma, and near fatal illnesses are usually reported. However, countless minor injuries go unreported. Bruises, minor sprains, food poisoning, heat-related illnesses , even minor chest and back pains may be shrugged off by the guest as unimportant.
While some figures released suggest that the number of accidents at parks is less than 1 for every 9 million rides, it’s obvious that that probably only accounts for serious injuries that are required by law to be reported. The reality is that there is no accurate statistic for how many injuries, serious or minor, go unreported and, therefore, no way to know what the actual risk is of being in a theme park accident.
New Orleans Loves Film
It seems like every major city has jumped onto the film festival bandwagon. A few decades ago, there were only a handful of film festivals throughout the world. Now there are so many festivals that many end up competing with each other for films, celebrities and audiences. New Orleans hosts no less than three festivals each year: the New Orleans International Children’s Film Festival, the French Film Festival and the upcoming New Orleans Film Festival, scheduled for October 14 -21, 2010.
The New Orleans Film Festival, celebrating it’s 21st Anniversary in 2010, showcases international and national films as well as celebrating local and regional productions. Filmmakers will flock to the Best New Orleans Hotels to share their works, interact with filmgoers and attend the Patron Party & Gala.
This year’s buzz-worthy entrants include Black Swan by Darren Aronofsky, 127 by Danny Boyle and Welcome to the Rileys which was filmed in New Orleans. Dcoumentarian D. A. Pennebaker and film partner Chris Hegedus will be on hand to screen a four-film retrospective of their work featuring 2010′s Kings of Pastry. Director Taylor Hackford, a part-time resident of New Orleans, will screen his newest film, Love Ranch, starring Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci.
Other films on the Festival’s schedule include Howl, Waiting for Superman, Bury the Hatchet, and a screening of the restored 1960 classic Breathless.
CSI Miami
CSI Miami is such a good show! Miami Dade police are always in action! Horatio Cane has a list of one liner’s that is longer than some of the Mala Noche’s rap sheets!
The everglades are always a favorite place to dump dead bodies. It was sad when Delko was lost and dying there! I could not believe after finding so many other bodies there that they were actually looking for one of their own! It was a relief when they finally found him! I am sad to see him go, even if he did join another favorite of mine, Ugly Betty!
It is so intriguing to me how a show about such horrific incidences can still make Miami look like such a cool place to be! The beaches look vibrantly blue and the sand almost white. The houses that they process are absolutely amazing. The extras are gorgeous! I am so hooked on the show, I just want to stay in one of those miami hotel suites and just chill out by the beach.
Cally Ducane is always looking glamorous. She wears those five inch heels on the job! How does she walk around all day like that? She must not get out to the beach+www.miamibeachfl.gov/ too often, because flip flops are not in her wardrobe.
Alex is another member of the team that has won a lot of viewer’s hearts. It was not until this last season or two that her personal story was shared. In one of the episodes, she was kidnapped by an escaped convict who threatened to kill her children.
Horatio has a son as well. Although he did not stay on as a regular right away, he is starting to work in the lab now. It will add depth to the show watching the two of them interact and have their relationship unfold as father and son as well as boss and employee.
Miami Dade County can rest safely tonight knowing it has a dedicated team of experts working on their latest murder case. Horatio has taken an oath to protect and to serve, and when Horatio Cane makes a promise, he’s keeping it.
